Bee in flight

Posted by Mark Dalpe (Ottawa, Canada) on 15 April 2008 in Animal & Insect.

I've long tried to capture insects in flight when shooting macro. It is a difficult technique at best. I'm one of those photographers who does not like to use the motor drive on the camera to try and get a shot (unless I'm being paid to get the shot then I don't care how I get the shot so long as I get it), relying instead on capturing the decisive moment with one click of the shutter. Consequently I sometime work at a disadvantage (I like a challenge) but have greater satisfaction when it does work out. This summer I am making it my mission to do a whole series of insects in flight. It'll be fun to see how it goes.
